Selected Works 2:49 to 5:54 PM, Sunday 17th April, 2016
Selected Works 2:49 to 5:54 PM, Sunday 17th April, 2016 is a silent single channel video of a walk along a river path, located near the house I was living in at the time. It presents a series of objects, accumulations and other already-occurring observable suburban phenomena as works of art. The subtitles which accompany the video talk about the various signs and bushes dotted around the landscape as though they are works that I have created. A short walk outside pretending to be an artist talk for a significant body of work, Selected Works 2:49 to 5:54 PM, Sunday 17th April, 2016 plays off the dual uses of the word 'selected' within visual arts discourse: the act of selection as a viable artistic strategy within 20 c. art, and the use of the modifier 'selected' in the titling of retrospective exhibitions and Artist CVs, as implicit proof of editing in order to ensure quality and consistency.
